4 reasons why “Never give up” is a myth

With the passage of time, the pressure to succeed in all forms of life and in turn whatever you take up is piling up.

We are constantly fed with the idea that giving up on whatever you are delegated as, is the worst thing to do.

Motivational speakers come out with endless examples willing us to wear those shoes when clearly privilege and opportunities differ from case to case.

Don’t you think this idea is more of preachy and less of practical in today’s day and age?

Here are 4 reasons why never giving up is a myth: -

  1. A stigma is attached to giving up: In a society like ours, it is wired in our head that you need to be a go getter, somebody who always achieves what is taken up. Giving up on something is not accepted gracefully. It is something that is looked down upon given the fast pace achievement driven life these days. We live in a comparison driven life which leads to a thinking that you always need to be at par with your peers. It hinders to put out your best self in front of everyone.
  2. Psychological Biases: Our cognitive biases make it harder for us to leave existing situations and hop on to something completely new. We aren’t able to do it despite us being extremely miserable at our present work. It can range from being in a toxic relationship to being in unlikeable jobs, bad friendships and so much more. The idea of ‘never give up’ doesn’t let you get out of the bubble and actually quit whatever is bothering you to take a stand.
  3. Blind faith on motivation: Don’t get me wrong but in today’s day and age, a lot of stress is given on motivation to achieve and hustle for your goals without which nothing seems achievable.

But what if you just need self-motivation to get up and get your work done? Every individual is different and so the motivation that works for one individual might not work for another. Thus, someone might give up on the way while others would get uplifted by the motivation and would actually achieve the set goals.

  4. Not recognizing how right giving up is sometimes: We do not realize mostly how giving up is not a quitting attitude. Rather, it depends on the individual how right do they feel about what they do and the situation they are in.

They are the best people to recognize if holding up is the solution or giving up would actually be the best thing to do.

Conclusively, giving up isn’t the worst deed. You never know how differently you start living after taking that step.

Someone has rightly said, ‘The beginning of wisdom is the recognition of reality.’

Thus, if giving up on something gives up hope to move ahead and grow on a different pattern, go for it.
